Personal Inventory/Best Fit College Match

Based on our preliminary review of transcripts, courses, extracurriculars, test scores, and academic/social criteria,  we research and compile a list of colleges and academic programs that represent the best match between your interests/credentials and the institution’s admissions standards and offerings.  I also provide an assessment of your admissions prospects at each of your “target” colleges.

College Admissions MAP

Once we have devised a list of suitable “best fit” colleges, I will assist you in developing a plan that maps out the following:  future coursework, impact activities, test schedules, the timeline for teacher recommendations, and essay writing. We will meet to stay organized and complete tasks for various deadlines.

Common App Completion

We will work together to ensure all parts of the Common Application are filled out with accurate information, as well as making sure you have your best foot forward with the items we will include in the Common App.

Personal Statements/Supplemental Essays/Resumes

The college essay is often perceived as the most daunting part of the college application, but with over 15 years of experience, I am committed to helping my students develop essays that show their strength of character, and highlight the student’s best assets.  Initially, I work with you to brainstorm essay topics that are capable of reflecting your values and assets.  We will also discuss the topics and red flags to avoid when writing your essays. The topic of your personal statement must tell a powerful story that shows just how unique and special you are. Your personal statement and supplemental essays should uncover layers of new information about you that encourage the admissions officers to admit you. Finally, I review your essays for clarity of expression and grammatical correctness and offer further suggestions on how you can enhance your writing.

Student Activity Sheet/Resume

The student activity sheet or resume has become an increasingly important part of the college application. I will help you write an activity sheet/resume that is clear, concise, and reflective of your involvement both inside and outside the classroom. Your activity list should provide solid evidence about you outside of the classroom.

Standardized Testing Strategy

We will identify which standardized tests to take or retake in order to maximize your admissions prospects and minimize the time for major-related coursework and your college degree.  Testing strategies encompass SAT, ACT, AP, IB, CLEP, and various subject tests, among others.

Letters of Recommendation

I advise you on how to get teachers, counselors, coaches, and extracurricular sponsors/ supervisors to write strong letters of recommendation. We discuss from whom you should get letters; how and when to make requests; and how you can encourage writers to communicate  your strengths and interests more effectively.

The College Interview

The college interview can prove to be an essential factor in the college admissions process and can even be a deciding factor for admission for a borderline applicant. I provide coaching on the college interview. We discuss what questions to expect and what questions to ask.  We focus on ways for you to leave a lasting “admit me” impression.

Deferrals and Waitlist Support

Develop compelling Letters of Continued Interest and map additional strategies to ensure that students have demonstrated interest in ways that will support their admissions decision.
